The Easiest English Test for UK Skilled Worker Visa – LanguageCert General SELT (A2–C1)

My name is Ferdous, and I moved to the UK on a Skilled Worker visa in January 2021. It was one of the biggest decisions of my life — and also one of the most challenging.

Like many people from Bangladesh, I dreamed of working and building a better life in the UK. I had the skills, the job offer, and the motivation. But there was one thing holding me back:

How I Moved to the UK with a Skilled Worker Visa – And the English Test That Made It Possible

I tried IELTS — twice. I failed both times, even though I could speak and understand English well enough for work. The stress, the long exam day, the speaking part in front of an examiner — it all felt overwhelming. I started to think maybe the UK wasn’t for me.

But then one day, a relative of mine who was already living in the UK recommended LanguageCert General SELT — and that advice changed everything for me..

What Is LanguageCert General SELT – And Why It Worked for Me

LanguageCert is an English language test that is officially approved by the UK Home Office for visa purposes — including Skilled Worker visas. Unlike IELTS, it felt more straightforward, less stressful, and more tailored to what I actually needed to prove: that I could communicate well enough to live and work in the UK.

Here’s why I chose LanguageCert — and why you should consider it too if you’re struggling with IELTS like I was:

Exam Structure – Simple and Job-Relevant

The LanguageCert General SELT tests your English in four skills:

    Listening

    Reading

    Writing

    Speaking

The good part? It’s not too academic or confusing. The questions are practical, like reading emails, writing short letters, and answering everyday questions.

Speaking Test Tip: You don’t have to talk to a real person! It’s done via a computer with a headset — much less pressure than sitting in front of an IELTS examiner.

    Understanding Score Levels B1 (A2–C1)

LanguageCert scores are based on the CEFR levels — Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Here’s what you need to know:

IELTS vs LanguageCert – My Honest Comparison

For my Skilled Worker visa, I needed B1, and it was absolutely manageable with just a couple of weeks of preparation.

Minimum SEFR Level or Score required for UK Skill Worker Visa

The minimum CEFR level required for a UK Skilled Worker Visa is B1 on the LanguageCert SELT, with a score of 40 in each section — Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.

How I Prepared – Without Coaching or Expensive Courses

I didn’t have money for coaching, and honestly, I didn’t need it. Here’s exactly what I did:

Used free practice tests from the LanguageCert website

Watched YouTube videos explaining the test format

Practiced speaking out loud with friends and by recording myself

Focused on real-life English – emails, workplace phrases, and short conversations

I prepared for about 1 hour a day for 2 weeks, and that was enough.

Where You Can Take the LanguageCert Test in Bangladesh

    You’ve got two great options:

In-person test centers: Available in Dhaka and Sylhet

Online from home: With a remote proctor (you’ll need a computer and good internet)

I chose the online option, and it went smoothly.

Step-by-Step Guide to Booking LanguageCert from Bangladesh

    Here’s how to do it:

Go to the official website: LanguageCert.org

Click on “SELT” and choose “LanguageCert General SELT”

Select your test level (usually B1 for Skilled Worker Visa)

Choose whether you want to take the test online or in a center

    Pick a date and time

Create an account and upload your passport

Pay the fee and confirm your booking

Results come within 3 working days, and your official certificate is sent to your email. I submitted it with my visa application, and it was accepted without any issues.

Final Words – Don’t Let English Testing Hold You Back

If you’re from Bangladesh and trying to move to the UK for work, please know that you’re not alone. I’ve been through the same struggle. IELTS is not the only option — and definitely not the easiest one.

LanguageCert General SELT helped me when I thought I had no other chance. Now, I’m living in the UK, working, and building a future that once felt out of reach.

If I can do it, you can too.
